On an ongoing basis, our consulting services are retained for website analysis. We are asked to provide our input as to why a client is not getting more sales. A quick analysis that you can do for your own website is to evaluate the following to determine if your site is working for or against you:

  1. Am I getting traffic to my site (this can be tracked by using any number of free analytics tools or custom tools)?   - If you are not getting traffic – this is indicative of poor search engine rankings due to the site not being optimized and not enough social media presence.
  2. What is the traffic doing when they get to my site? – (this also can be tracked by using analytics) If browsers are bouncing right out, you may need to improve the look of the site (images and photos).  If they are taking time to go through the site but not converting, you may need to improve your content because the images are capturing their interest, but your copy may be uninteresting or not have enough “meat”?
  3. Is the traffic converting into sales? – Lack of sales could be due to any and all of the above, as well as a site that is just plain ugly or not easy to navigate, contact information that is not easy to find, broken hyperlinks, or an inappropriate price point.

Finding your business’s pain points is not a pleasant experience, but it is a necessary one.  Take an objective look at your site and evaluate if You would buy from You!
